Dear Members,
Welcome to the Gated Community Security Managers Association!
I’m honored to serve as President of GCSMA, and every time I think about this organization, I’m reminded of how fortunate we are to stand on the foundation that was built for us.
John Sutphin, our Godfather and founder, had a simple but powerful idea: security directors shouldn’t have to figure everything out alone. Although the back of a napkin didn’t hold the holy grail, John, Mike Korpar, Bob Russell and I met for dinner a few decades ago when John first pitched the idea of the Gated Community Security Managers Association. We all agreed his idea had merit, but John was the one who took action and started GCSMA.
Mike then took the reins and continued building on that legacy with the same heart and dedication, making sure GCSMA remained a place where real connections happen and real solutions are shared.
Now it’s my turn to carry the torch, and I couldn’t be more excited. My goal is simple: to make sure GCSMA continues to be the resource you need and the community you can count on. In the year ahead, I want us to focus on strengthening our training programs, expanding opportunities for collaboration, and making sure every member feels equipped to tackle the challenges of today’s security landscape. Together, we’ll build on the incredible foundation laid before us and ensure GCSMA remains the standard-bearer for our industry.
Whether you’re managing security for a small community or a massive one, whether you’re a seasoned veteran or just starting out, you have a home here. We’ve got members from coast to coast with diverse backgrounds, and that’s what makes us strong. Your experience adds value. Your questions remind others they’re not alone. Your solutions might be exactly what someone else needs to hear, while the solution you are searching for could be only a conversation away.
So please, get involved. Come to our meetings, take advantage of our training programs, ask questions in our forums, and get to know your fellow security directors. We’re all here to be better at what we do and to keep our communities safe.
Thank you for being part of the GCSMA family. I look forward to connecting with you and to building the future of this association together.
Sincerely,

Timothy Cook, President
